Commonwealth Attorney, Travis Bird Supports Local Family and Funds Hometown Heroes Scholarship Program

On June 6, 2017, Spotsylvania Commonwealth’s Attorney Travis Bird hosted his 3rd annual Golf Tournament at Lee’s Hill Golf Course. Mr. Bird had announced that the proceeds from this tournament would benefit the family of fallen Virginia State Police Special Agent Michael Walter. The tournament was fortunate when numerous local companies and many elected officials sponsored or participated in the tournament.

Mr. Bird was able to proudly announce that the tournament raised over $9000.00 for the family of Special Agent Walter. That check will be delivered to his family with a large signed card that golfers and other community members have signed. Mr. Bird would like to thank all of the participants, donors, and the community as a whole for helping make this tournament a success and for helping Special Agent Walter’s family.

In the Spring of this year, Spotsylvania Commonwealth’s Attorney Travis Bird announced his personally financed Spotsylvania Hometown Heroes Scholarship Program. These $500 Scholarships were available to graduating Spotsylvania County residents whose parent(s) were employed in the following fields: Law Enforcement, Military, Education, Firefighter/EMT, and any Spotsylvania County government agency. The five-member

Scholarship Committee announced the following winners:
Child of Law Enforcement: Eva Waszak (Riverbend High School)
Child of Military: Madison Hughes (Massaponnax High School)
Child of an Educator: Kyle Pins (Courtland High School)
Child of a Spotsylvania County Employee: Allyson Moore (Massaponnax High School)
Child of a Firefighter/EMT: No applicants – no award.

Mr. Bird created his scholarship program because he wanted to give back to the Spotsylvania community and is honored to support these fine young men and women in their future education endeavors.

The offering business must start the initial auction just slightly less than the face amount. Then, auction participants can “peek” at the current price, for 20¢ a peek, and then decide if they would like to purchase at the current price or peek again later. Each “peek” lowers the price by 10¢. The ultimate cost to the buyer may be as little as $1 regardless of the card value. The best thing is that the offering business gets 100% of the initial, only slightly discounted, offering price. Looking over the category list, there is a place for every popular business. Developers also promise to add any new category necessary for any business or organization. For more information, visit http://www.peekabooauctions.com
